m. jackson

Michael Jackson - Rock With You (Daft Punk remix)
Michael Jackson - Thriller (Bird Peterson remix)
Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (Kanye West Mix)

Though posting MJ remixes kind of feels like jumping on the bandwagon, I feel it's necessary to throw Michael a little blog love. Just like ever other kid of the 80s/90s, I grew up loving MJ. You can find more remixes here at The Press Play Show.

Also, check out this extended vidclip of 'The Way You Make Me Feel' - unfortunately embedding has been disabled. So cute.

monday morning music.

Sally Shapiro - Jackie Junior (Junior Boys Remix)

Good morning :)

This is a remix of Jackie Jackie by Sally Shapiro, the svelte Swedish pop-electro singer. Junior Boys applied their magic touch - I definitely prefer the remix to the original (which can be heard at Shapiro's myspace). Love Sally + JB.

The entire album of remixes, entitled Remix Romance Vol. 1, can be bought here at Paper Bag Records.

Off to the gym I go.

FREE Red Stripe! TONIGHT! If you rsvp'd, that is. It closed earlier this afternoon. I got the flyer in my inbox from Fader a week or 2 ago, but neglected to post it sooner. My apologies. It's also been all over the Austin blogs for at least a week now, but why not share it with my unique, albeit limited, readership?

Red Stripe commercials = genius. Shout out to Nicole for first introducing these to me something like ten thousand years ago :)

happy friday!

swing low.

Sunset Rubdown - Silver Moons
Sunset Rubdown - Black Swan

Tracks 1 & 4 off Sunset Rubdown's latest album, Dragonslayer (which drops tomorrow).

We saw Sunset this past Friday night at Mohawk. Spencer Krug put on awesome show, and seemed genuinely disappointed by the 12:00 sound cutoff imposed by the apartment complex across the street. Lame. They were only able to play a little over an hour. You may recognize Krug's distinctive voice - he's also a part of Wolf Parade.

check 'em out & enjoy :)

we let it go too far.

I discovered Engineers while browsing music blogs on the Cayman trip. I promise this band is worlds more accessible than the minimal I typically post. It's shoegaze-y, indie rock goodness. Check out this review of their first and self-titled album on Pitchfork. I've yet to pick it up, but I can assure you that Three Fact Fader (their 2nd effort) is worth your time.

The opening tracks, to whet your appetite:
Engineers - Clean Coloured Wire
Engineers - Sometimes I Realise (love love love this)

Pick up the album :)

Maybe I'll do a Cayman recap post soon. I have awesome shots of myself and the fam swimming with stingrays and, of course, the requisite gazillion pretty beach shots.

I'm about to pack if off for AFS... check out next week's Essential Cinema screening - The Masseurs and a Woman. The site is saying sold out, but there should still be tickets available at the door. I think all the members have gone through and RSVP'd for every singe screening whether or not they're actually planning on coming. Lame.

catch ya later~

how deep is too deep?

pics taken at the Austin Zoo. Great Sunday afternoon trip :)

---
Sorry to report there won't be any Animal Collective shots. I brought my Canon to the show Friday night, but we were too far back to take anything quality. The concert was fun, despite the fact that I'm not the hugest AnCo fan. Somehow we managed to completely miss Black Dice, the opener. mmhmm yep.

---
In other news, I'm packing it off to the Caymans ridiculously early on Wednesday morning. Like I have to leave for the airport at 3:45ish in the AM. YIKES. I'm driving back to h-town tomorrow afternoon after my morning shift at AFS. This all obviously leading up to the fact that I'll be taking a week-long blogging hiatus. Enjoy the break ;)

---
Lastly, I want to throw more minimal at you. It's been far too long. Even though almost no one downloads this shit, and most of my friends can't comprehend my passion for it, here's something new: mountain 005.1 (original mix) - the mountain people.

mountain people are described as minimalist deep house. their stuff is slow to build, funky, and delightfully deep. No one seems to know much about these guys, adding a little intrigue into the mix. Play this one a few times & let it grow on you. I assure you, it will. Fabulous beats!

until next week!

Pic of the day?

Welcome, once again, to the new blog header/design. I think I'm going to revive my old Sunday music series, even though most of us no longer require study tunes. I also want to start profiling people - introducing them in my blog, however little good it might do them or their careers ;) ... my readership isn't exactly off the charts after all. I already have some special folks in mind, but feel free to suggest yourself/anyone else.

happy friday!

11:11 is lucky.

Harlem Shakes + Passion Pit @ Emo's Austin 06.03.09

Two of the scant pictures I managed to snap last night. We weren't close enough to manage anything better unfortunately. Harlem Shakes opened the night; Passion Pit brought the show home. Only two downfalls - 1) I have a cold (seriously? yes); and 2) The crowd emanated this awful hipster wannabe, in your face kinda vibe. More than a few obnoxious people deserved to be slapped. Wah!

---
On to bigger and better things... blog header revamp! I was tired of the romantic, sappiness of my old design. How's this? Rest assured, it'll change again in month or two ;)

---
Also - a few shots from my recent foray into the wild aka Becker Vineyards and Luckenbach. Enjoy!

come and kidnap me!

TONIGHT = Passion Pit @ Emo's. No worries, I promise to take more shitty pics with my old Canon.

If you're somehow missing out on the greatness that will be the Passion Pit concert, be consoled!! Sonic is giving away free root beer floats from 8 pm - 12 am. I think the whole world already knows about this though... would the line really be worth it?

Anddd last but not least, Tulpan. AFS screened this film last night, opening the next Essential Cinema screening series. Check 'em out - this series is entitled 'Love on the Largest Continent: Ten Asian Films.' Tickets are $6 for non-members, free for members. I strongly suggest that you join! It's definitely worth it.

the field + the juan maclean.

A few pics from Friday night's show @ the Mohawk. The Field was solid - dreamy, repetitive goodness as always, & def my preference to Juan.

Eeek it's past 3 and I'm not even remotely tired. Blah.

I really wish I could go to this... & find something more inspiring to do than surf the net right now. Things could always be worse, though :)
