kids in the street drinking wine on the sidewalk...

It's the last day of February. I'm kind of having a hard time believing that. Where has the time gone?! I think a final entry for el mes de febrero is called for.

Nicole is coming up to visit/go out with me tonight :)

PARIS IS BURNING ALL NIGHT LONG! and so is Austin.

wake up with a smile.

Happy listening for a Tuesday night.

I love Erlend Oye. From Kings of Convenience to The Whitest Boy Alive to his personal album, Unrest; it's all good.

'The Black Keys Work' is a lovely little piece. I think I prefer the remix on Erlend's DJ Kicks, but this one will do for now.

you are what you love, not what loves you.

"There are too many ideas and things and people. Too many directions to go. I was starting to believe the reason it matters to care passionately about something, is that it whittles the world down to a more manageable size. " - Susan Orlean (Meryl Streep)

Let me preface this by stating that 'Adaptation' is not one of my favorite movies, but that I find it somewhat thought provoking. I think it's a pitch perfect movie up until the last half hour, at which point it disintegrates into pointless drivel (although I'm sure it could all be rationalized, and in fact I could actually rationalize it myself, but that doesn't make me like it!).

We are all so caught up in ourselves, so concerned with creating a persona that can be appreciated, accepted, and perhaps even loved. Our interests and pursuits define us, do they not? They are our basis for choosing friends and selecting companions. But things inevitably feel empty on that rare, off occasion. It is then that we are aware of all our sick self-obfuscation.

Then you carry on. And it becomes Tuesday morning.... but things do change.

respira por tus manos... respira por tus pies

And so, I have left all my thousands upon thousands of avid blog followers destitute and without sustenance all week long. Forgive me, countless readers. It was a busy (more like boring/hellish) week, which was later to be capped off with an even more disheartening weekend. It really wasn't THAT bad, but nothing to write home about.. There were several articles/topics/artists that I wanted to blog about throughout the course of the week, but time was always lacking. I promise to be back on top of things next week!

My music selection this week is from Alejandro Vivanco, a Chilean DJ and producer. I saw him spin a set live at Piso 33 in Santiago. Good stuff. This is 'Madre Tierra' .... enjoy!

ego tripping.

So it's that time of the week again, kids. Pumped for the start of yet another Monday? I have a special treat just for you this week. A mix of tracks by Gui Boratto, all of them, I believe, from his album Chromophobia. I've been rocking out and/or studying with Gui since last spring-ish. I think you'll enjoy his work. Wow, I can't believe I'm actually keeping this weekly music thing up.

---

--- To start, 'The Verdict,' which ironically enough is the last track on the album.

--- Next, 'Chromophobia,' the title track.

--- 'Acrostico.'

--- And last, but not least, 'Mr. Decay' as remixed by Robert Babicz. If you've ever been at my apartment on a Friday or Saturday night, you've probably heard this track... maybe more than just a few times.

---

And so, because I feel like shooting the shit just a bit longer and avoiding my homework...

Side trip: 60 Minutes Sunday edition is a weekly tradition of sorts for me, and while I anticipate catching a new episode, I kind of also dread it (it marks the end of the weekend after all). This week one of the opening stories focused in on Eckhard Tolle, a retired academic who has since enlightened all sorts of folk (including Paris Hilton and Oprah) with his personal life philosophy. The ego is what inhibits us from enjoying the present moment, and we must learn to just let go of all things trivial. Various Christian groups are attacking him for his statements about religion - according to Tolle all religions have equal founding and no one is superior to another. The fact that Christians deem other religions wrong and sacrilegious is evidence of the ego at work. Though a bit batty, Tolle seems genuine, and yes!!! he did encourage me to think more positively about my life at the moment. Considering this weekend was a bit of a disppointment, I kind of needed the boost. Other stories included the looming threat of an Al Qaeda takeover in Pakistan, and concerns regarding the American steel industry's fate in light of the stimulus package. Love 60 Minutes.

And this is Christine, over & out.

feliz día de san valentín.

These lovely pics are my Valentine's day gift to you.
Credit goes to Lina Scheynius, a photographer that I discovered last year.
I love her work.
If I were ever to learn photography, I think my style would be somewhat similar to hers.

Disfrútalo!

another time, another place.

---
Just wanted you to know that I hope our paths cross again one day. Nothing more, nothing less.

---
Oh, and thanks for reminding me that KOL actuals merits a listen. 'Only By The Night' defined January for me; 'I Want You' being one of the standout tracks.
---

Don't you just love secret message blog entries obviously not directed at you? Enjoy the KOL - a great song for capping the week off.
hehe ;)
Happy Friday the 13th!

single on v-day? solution: autoamor.

---
Another gem from the front page of Yahoo! en Español.
---

Pay special attention to the suggestions made at the end of the blog, especially:

"Por cada recuerdo bueno, prende una vela, por cada dolor ya superado prende una vela y asimila la lección aprendida. Con la luz de las velas, simbólicamente, honras tu vida y toda tu historia."

y esto:

"Brinda con champaña porque estás llena de amor y alegría para regalar a tus seres queridos, en este momento presente."

Thank you, Yahoo! en Español, for attempting to make me feel better about being single and for encouraging me to love myself. Your tips are simply and unequivocally priceless, as always.

caffeine is not my drug of choice.

DJ Koze - I Want to Sleep

Last week I posted 'Minimal,' as remixed by DJ Koze. This week it's Koze at it all on his own. This piece is mega chill and great background music as you just get started on all that crap you avoided doing this weekend. Coffee anyone?

And so... I think I'm about to establish a weekly tradition. Every Sunday night/Monday morning, I will leave a song for your listening pleasure. Get excited about yet another Monday! Music always helps... music makes the world go round :)

lighten up.... or light up?

To brighten up my blog after that last, slightly depressing entry, I want to present you with this: a quirky insight into my adolescence and a smoking hot pic of Russell.

A tidbit of meaningless information - I am a person of stages. One of these was a nearly unhealthy obsession with Russell Crowe. It lasted all of about 2 years while I was in middle school. My parents actually took me to see Russell play with his band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, at Stubbs here in Austin one summer. I think Gladiator drew me in, and from there I proceeded to blindly appreciate any and all of Russell's projects. 30 Odd Foot of Grunts didn't merit a second listen, but I wanted to believe it did. Oh Russell. I really haven't had any other major celebrity crushes; I think it's kind of pointless and a waste of time. Thank god I got over that one.

Bored and don't feel like prepping for my Spanish composition tomorrow, hence the pointless blogging.

buenas noches :)

sexy, sultry tunes.

Matias Aguayo - Minimal (DJ Koze remix)
"This track is pure sex." - fittingly put by a commentator on youtube.
The original version is actually better, but I can't seem to find it.

Enjoy. Just what you needed at 1 a.m. to start your Monday off right.
